Can you believe it is already the middle of November?

Me either!  I have a bunch of holiday gifts still waiting to be started.

I might have to rethink some of my more ambitious plans.  If you are in the same boat, here are a few last-minute gift ideas you can make in time for those holiday gatherings.

Lacy Poinsettia Wreath

Lacy Poinsettia Wreath for you table.  Easy applique on felt.  Just fuse the shapes, stitch them down, and trim away the extra let to make it look lacy.  This is the 18” round version with a hole left in the middle to make it look like a wreath.

Lacy Poinsettia Round

You can also fill the center and it is a nice table centerpiece for a cute candle.

Fat Quarter Pop Up

For the crafty friend, how about a springy Fat Quarter Pop-Up?  They are useful and fun to play with… a win-win! Pattern comes with instructions, spring, elastic and a cute label.  You just need a fat quarter (non-directional) and a little bit of stabilizer (I like SF101 by Pellon).

Lacy Sparkle on Mug

For all those teachers… add a cute Lacy Ornament to a coffee mug filled with tea or cocoa.  Have your kids sign and date the ornaments with a felt-tipped marker to add a personal touch.

I hope you have a lovely time sewing and crafting for the holidays!

Speakeasy Blog Hop - a fantastic new Island Batik collection!

by Joanne Hillestad on 11/07/19

Welcome!

Today is my day of the Island Batik Speakeasy Blog Hop.
This beautiful collection was design by the ever talented Tammy Silvers of Tamarinis.  Tammy was inspired by a great artist she admires and the result is a variety of prints and colors that would make your next quilt look like a million bucks!

Here is a small sampling of the fabrics in this collection:

I had fun playing with the colors and decided to mock up 2 table runners.  They are both the same pattern, Curlique.

Side Dish sized (10" x 10")
& the Casserole size (10" x 14")

Collection is shipping to local quilt shops now... look for it soon!
Thanks for stopping by!
Jo

The first snow of the year has already fallen here in Minnesota.  With the change in temperature, I start getting excited to dive into holiday projects!  Some projects will be gifts, others will brighten my home.
Either way, the cooler weather gets me in the mood to sew...

This year, we have something fun to help you find the perfect holiday projects!
Not everything will be holiday themed.
But they will all be fun projects you will love to make!

Fat Quarter Gypsy and 3 other pattern lines will be teaming up to bring you an Instagram event over the next few weeks.

Lacy Poinsettia
The first project for today is a gorgeous lacy wreath or table runner.

You can make this wreath table topper with any variety of cotton fabrics.  The shapes are appliqued to a circle of felt.  Once all the shapes are top-stitched in place, trim the extra felt away to give your wreath a lacy look.  It looks a lot harder than it actually is!

The pattern contains 3 sizes:
18" round - leave the center empty to form a wreath,
or fill the whole circle for a cute table centerpiece!

18" x 36" or 18" x 54" with lattice

There are a variety of lacy runner patterns for you to choose from.  Enjoy!

Next up is a fun gift you could make for any number of people... or maybe yourself!

Wire-Framed Potluck Totes
The one below is the Bread Tray size (6.5" x 14").  It is perfect for holding bread, cookies... or... notions next to your machine!  I've also heard of people making this size to use as an organizer in the bathroom.  It fits perfectly on the back of the commode.
The possibilities are endless!

There are also 2 additional sizes in the pattern:
Casserole (holds a 9" x 13" casserole pan)
or the Side Dish (holds a 9" x 9" cake pan).

Whichever size you choose, your friends and family will love it!
