Brussel Sprouts or Liver?

by Joanne Hillestad on 11/02/14

Ever have one of those days when nothing goes quite right?  I am having one of those today...

My machine broke.
Silver Lining: it needed service anyways

I eased (which I should have caught onto sooner) 3- 72" seams only to realize afterwards I had 72.5 inch seams.  No wonder they were too long!!  LOL
Silver Lining: I got to try out my new stitch ripper with the eraser ends... loving it!

Bart (the rooster) has discovered girls.  Any idea how to neuter a rooster?
Ok, just went a googled it... yes you can... no I won't.  I will have to get those little hen jackets so he stops removing all their feathers.
Silver Lining: He is such a handsome chicken!  I will post a picture on to this post later.

That's 3... good place to stop.  I have faith this day will improve.  However, I am a MN Vikings fan... so Sundays can be difficult.  bahahahahahahaha

Skol Vikings!

P.S. Brussel Sprouts or Liver... 2 things my Mom used to make us eat.  If I had to choose... there was no winner. What does this have to do with anything? Nothing...

Introducing Zoe or Zack...

by Joanne Hillestad on 10/20/14

I have been so busy getting ready for Market.  I fly out later this week with my sister for a very busy, fun and exciting long weekend!!  I'll be in booth 1904 peddling my patterns, so stop by and say hi if you are attending!!

Just before I go, I have 1 more fun, new pattern to introduce... Zoe or Zack.  This pattern is fat quarter friendly and uses a single block to make 2 designs!  You get to choose the final layout!  The pattern is great for beginners, classes and guilds.

So, find some fat quarters, a main print and take your pick... Zoe or Zack!

A Fat Quarter Friendly quilt.

Available 10/22/2014.

My very first quilt to get published in a magazine... Chopped!

by Joanne Hillestad on 10/14/14

I'm soooo excited to finally get to share Chopped with you all. The pattern is going to be in the Quilter's Newsletter Best Fat Quarter Quilts 2014 that is available as of October 28, 2014.

Fat Quarter Gypsy Chopped in Quilter's Newsletter
Photo by Quilter's Newsletter... all rights reserved and all that jazz... it's not mine, I didn't take and I can't claim I did... LOL.  Seriously, they did such I nice job on it... it makes me proud.  I'm just never quite sure how much I need to say... so I went with a lot this time.

I submitted the design to Quilter's Newsletter back in March.  I had the prototype quilt sewn, pattern written and in the test sewing stage when I was encouraged by Susan Emory of Swirly Girls Design to submit it.  So, I took a chance and sent it in... I didn't expect it to get chosen.  I figured nothing ventured, nothing gained.

But it did!!!

For the veteran quilt designers out there... this isn't nearly as exciting, but for little nobody me... this is VERY EXCITING!!

So, here it is... enjoy!

Something new for your Friday

by Joanne Hillestad on 08/29/14

I have been a very naughty newsletter writer lately.  So, I will quickly post a little info about my 3 new patterns to my blog.

First up is Secret Garden.

This is a fun way to use that jelly roll you have fallen in love with!  All you need is a set of 40 - 2 1/2" strips, sashing and a border... and shazam!  Add some appliqued leaves if you want and you will have your own personal Secret Garden!!

Do you have a new baby girl in the family?  Sweet Ups and Downs is the perfect quilt for that adorable little bundle of joy!  Add some minke for the backing and it will be so soft and snuggly!

And for my more modern quilters.... Bumble!
All you need is a stack of fat quarters and a main fabric.  Grab something dark and it becomes a masculine quilt any guy would love to have!
